Each adjacent layer is rotated by up to 90 degrees to reduce the risk of splitting when nailed in at the edges.

Exterior plywood carries an x stamp which identifies it as suitable for use outdoors. Plywood is an engineered wood made from multiple layers of thin veneer that are glued together. Exterior grade softwood plywood is most commonly used in the construction industry for its structural qualities and price point. It normally comes in piles of 3 5 7 9 and the lowest number indicates the uppermost class of a cdx plywood.

Beside cdx you can also find better grades such as abx acx and even bcx. It is usually made from softwoods such as douglas fir or pine.
